Tulsa, Oklahoma, is located in the northeastern corner of Oklahoma in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Gently rolling hills covered in lush green vegetation ease into the open prairies that comprise the Great Plains region. As the second-largest city in the state, Tulsa is home to nearly 900,000 residents in its metropolitan area. Tulsa is an attractive city for students and professionals, and Forbes named Tulsa second in income growth in its 2006 Best Places to Do Business list. Other attractions include the Arkansas River, which flows through the center of the city, a variety of art museums, and an array of Native American cultural points of interest.
Employment
According to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, the computer industry will experience tremendous growth through 2012. The greatest increases are predicted for network systems and data communications analysts and computer systems analysts, at 43$ and 35%, respectively. Impressive gains hovering around 30% are also expected for database administrators, computer specialists, computer information systems specialists, and network and communication systems administrators.
Computer graduates might find exciting employment and internship opportunities with some of Tulsa's largest employers, including St. Francis Health System, Tulsa Public Schools, Honeywell Aerospace Systems, and the Bank of Oklahoma.
Education
Computer students in Tulsa can choose to study computer science at the University of Tulsa, which awards a bachelor of science degree. The
University of Phoenix offers a bachelor of science degree in information technology, while Wright Business School offers certificates in computer technology and information technology.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Oklahoma's State Regents for Higher Education administer a number of scholarships and grants for residents of Oklahoma.
Scholarships include the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program - Oklahoma's Promise, which is awarded to students with both academic merit and financial need. The Academic Scholars Program is given to students who demonstrate high academic achievement.
The Oklahoma Tuition Equalization Grant Program awards up to $2,000 to students attending a private, non-profit college or university. The Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant Program awards up to $1,300 to students with financial need.
